Texas Instruments PCIxx21 card reader under SuSE Linux

For those that know me well, they have noticed that I’ve been bugged by the hardware that hasn’t been working with SuSE Linux (Openlinux since some time). A year and a half ago, we’ve bought ourselves a shiny new hp Pavilion zv 6068AE. Nice specs at the time:

  • AMD Athlon 64 processor
  • 100 GB Hard drisk
  • 128 MB ATI XPress 200M
  • 512 MB RAM
  • Multi-card reader
  • DVD-RW drive
  • Broadcom 43xx Wifi 54 MBit/s
  • Super Video Out

Not bad. Sadly, at the moment of initial installation, my SuSE (9.3 at the time) had some troubles with the timing of the processor. It uses variable speeds, and there was a part that got confused. I saw minutes go by in half the time when the problem arose. SuSE 10.0 remedied that problem.
