Wanneer je de installatie van Skype doet via het pakket dat op de Linux pagina van Skype wordt aangeboden, weigert Skype na installatie te starten. Als je kijkt naar de command line, krijg je volgende foutmelding:

Dat blijkt een probleem te zijn met een slecht pakket van Skype. Alberto Passalacqua heeft in zijn blog de correcte installatieprocedure van Skype 2.1 op OpenSuSE 11.2 64-bit geplaatst.

Ik heb het op onze oudere laptop geplaatst, en dat werkt wonderwel. Dank je, Alberto!

Shocking news this evening : TorquePowered just announced that its partner company will be shutting down, and that they are seeking for a buyer.

InterActive Corp has been creating some very big waves recently in the technology landscape as they are reviewing their business. After a period when the company was buying as much companies as it could in an effort to differentiate its portfolio, that strategy has changed. It seems IAC now wants to focus on a limited number of assets, and the ones that aren’t in the core portfolio have to go. And going in this case means being sold or closed down. read more »

The workaround in firefox is to go to “about:config”, just type it into the address bar and hit enter. Then change the value network.dns.disableIPv6 to TRUE.

The issue was still there in Ubuntu 10.04 according to Steve. As I’m planning to install a test instance of Ubuntu 10.10 in the near future, I’ll keep this one in mind.

Het Blender Durian project kreeg zijn uiteindelijke naam als ‘Sintel’, en werd eind september voorgesteld aan het publiek. Direct na de première in Amsterdam heeft het project team de film op Youtube geplaatst, om de rest van de wereld te laten meegenieten van het verhaal en de schitterende beelden.

Ik ben er zeker van dat we tijdens de Blender Conference eind deze maand in Amsterdam nog veel zullen horen over hoeveel shortcuts het team heeft moeten nemen, en hoe slecht ze zelf denken dat dit of dat uiteindelijk in beeld is gekomen. Het zou geen echte Blender Conference zijn zonder dat soort bedenkingen van de projectleden zelf We zullen dat maar toewijzen aan artisten die perfectionist zijn zeker?

De rest van de wereld is nogal extatisch over de finale kortfilm, wat het project team ook moge zeggen in Amsterdam. Het publiek vind het zo goed dat de video op Youtube al meer dan 1,3 milioen keer bekeken is geweest in een tweetal weken; Dat is een on-ge-lo-fe-lijke verwezenlijking. Proficiat aan zowel het Blender als het Durian Team!
