Command & Conquer 4 tidbits

Eurogamer has a gameplay video of C&C4 on their website, along with a screenshot gallery of what is to be the final part of the Kane story arc. The video shows the game in action, from both sides, both with offence and defence gameplay. How this is going to be implemented in the game itself is of course the important point.

I do hope that the video was sped up a bit, as the game speed shown in the video made me think of one of those nervous coin-up arcade machines, where your only goal is to slap the buttons as hard and as fast as possible.

It’s no secret that C&C is trying to break out of the RTS mould. C&C3 already introduced more arcade-like elements, but the changes were minor. Game publishers try to push the gamers to the internet for multiplayer, where the license validity can be enforced. The shift towards more multiplayer-targeted gameplay also has its impact on how games are built up, with attention to detail on some parts of the game.

Personally, I want to be able to play games when I want it and how I want to. Most of the time I play a short game (20min) against the computer. Finding a match that isn’t a total stranger takes almost as long, so I don’t even bother.

I hope the single-player part will be still worth it. I’ll have to wait until release of a demo before deciding on buying or not. Until then, I’ll follow up on the news I can find and post links to it here.
